Metaphysical meaning of abalone shells

Abalone shells are a feminine energy and represent protection and beauty. When used for energy healing they connect with the energy of the ocean (emotions) therefore are suited to balancing and healing on an emotional level.

Abalone shells for smudging rituals

Abalone shells are a tool commonly used in smudging or space clearing rituals.

Firstly they are used to hold a sage smudge stick or palo santo stick before, during and after the clearing ritual.

Secondly, abalone shells are used to catch embers and ash from the burning smudging stick.

Their third use is to stub out the smudging stick at the completion of the purification ritual.

If using your abalone shell for this purpose it is traditional (and a good idea) to place sand inside the bowl of the shell – this is not only useful and decreases the risk of fire but will also ensure the pristine finish of the polished shell is maintained.

Abalone shells are beautiful decorative items

Use abalone shells to hold your crystals or jewellery. Use them to decorate your sacred space. These abalone shells are even beautiful enough to display on a table without anything else.

Taking care of your abalone shell

If using your abalone shell for smudging rituals, place sand inside the bowl so as to not scorch the mother-of-pearl interior. The abalone shell can be washed in mild soapy water and left to dry naturally.
